Fort Island Park

This 35-acre park encompasses several land forms that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been identified in local legend as the site of the final battle for control of northeastern Ohio between the Erie and Iriquois tribes.

E. G. & G., Inc. coordinated the field investigations of a team of archaeologists, geologists and biologists studying the natural and human history of the site leading to a Master Development Plan prepared by E. G. & G., Inc. The plan provides handicapped access to the resources of the site for the purpose of educational and passive recreational use while disturbing as little as possible of the area's natural character.

E. G. & G., Inc. also completed design development and construction documents for implementation of one-and-a-half miles of wetland nature trails through eight vegetation and wildlife habitats connecting interpretive stations which provide information on key natural and historical features.

The park was officially dedicated in the autumn of 1992. In February of 1993, the City of Fairlawn and E. G. & G., Inc. received awards from OPRA and the Ohio Chapter of ASLA.
