Project Overview
EG&G, Inc. was the planning and design consultant retained by Ellwood City Revitalization (ECR) to prepare the revitalization master plan for the Ellwood City downtown district. Subsequently, ECR selected the planned downtown community plaza to be the phase one area for implementation and engaged EG&G, Inc. to provide final design and engineering services for project. The site of the planned community plaza was a 10,000 square-foot vacant lot located in the heart of the district. The vision was to create an attractive and welcoming downtown people-place and performance venue for the community. EG&G worked closely with a steering committee and the adjacent property owners to design the plaza improvements and enhancements including a forty-foot diameter elevated stage, unique fountain feature, permeable brick plaza paving, lighting, , landscaping and furnishings. In conjunction with the plaza EG&G also designed improvements and enhancements to the adjoining public street corridor and 60-space public parking lot, which also serves as the community farmers market. Street and parking area improvements included new sidewalks, curbs, handicap accessible ramps, signage, fencing, lighting, and landscaping. Construction of improvements is scheduled for completion in 2012.
